Fischer in Interzonal 1970

Bobby Fischer was World Champion from 1972-1975, wrestling the championship away from the dominance of the Soviet Union. According to research by Jeff Sonas, in 1971 Fischer had separated himself from the rest of the world by a larger margin of playing skill than any player since the 1870s. Fischer played his finest tournament in the Interzonal Tournament (held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain 1970). According to Jeff Sonas' calculations, he scored 18.5/23 against players of average rating 2643, giving him a performance rating of 2850.

To purchase products, I recommend Wholesale Chess. They provide the highest quality chess products at the lowest prices (especially for US and Canadian players). They even offer to match prices with other chess websites! Even though I live overseas, this is where I choose to purchase chess goods.

For chess opening training and repertoire maintenance, I highly recommend the software that I personally use, Chess Openings Wizard. This software was approved by Grandmaster Peter Svidler (FIDE rating 2744 as of January 2010) many years ago.
