Beating the Grandmasters

Beating the Grandmasters is my new YouTube video series. The purpose of this series is to show that grandmasters are quite beatable and are definitely not invincible against club players. I will show you some of my own games to prove this. Click here to see the videos from Beating the Grandmasters.

Note: I am not titled player strength by any stretch of the imagination and although I show many games where I win against titled players, what you don't see is that I lose three times as many games against players of this standard.

Below are some of my games from the series, with additional games. Note that in some of these games, I simply win because my opponent ran out of time. One must realise that time is as much a factor in the game as anything else, and a loss on time is still a "0 on the scoresheet". Some of the GMs I play use private handle-names, i.e. they choose not to reveal their real name to the public. However, the Internet Chess Club (ICC) asks for forms of identification from all players who claim that they are GMs, so these players are definitely GMs.

If you are familiar with ICC, note that the ratings used here are 5-minute ratings, not blitz ratings.

Where available, I have replaced my opponent's username with their real name. Where that was not an option, I simply left their username as is, e.g. Gavia or Patzerville. If you really would like to know what a particular player's username is, feel free to ask me on my YouTube channel.

Beating the International Masters

Beating the International Masters is my new YouTube video series. This series is a continuation of my earlier series Beating the Grandmasters. Having only ever beaten a handful of grandmasters, my choice of games from my earlier series was very limited. However, I have beaten a large number of international masters, and here, I have more freedom to choose the games that I enjoyed the most. In fact, I had only ever beaten grandmasters on the internet, the best over-the-board result I have had is a draw against a grandmaster, however, with this new series, I can actually show some of my over-the-board games. For the new series, I have taken the new approach of making them more puzzle-oriented. So, when I ask you to think about the position, I suggest you pause the video and actually figure out the best method of play in the position. I hope, with all this in mind, that you will enjoy the examples I present here and hopefully learn something from them. Click here to see the videos from Beating the International Masters.

Note: I am not titled player strength by any stretch of the imagination and although I show many games where I win against titled players, what you don't see is that I lose three times as many games against players of this standard.

Above are some of my games from the series.

To purchase products, I recommend Wholesale Chess. They provide the highest quality chess products at the lowest prices (especially for US and Canadian players). They even offer to match prices with other chess websites! Even though I live overseas, this is where I choose to purchase chess goods.

For chess opening training and repertoire maintenance, I highly recommend the software I use, Chess Openings Wizard. This software was approved by Grandmaster Peter Svidler (FIDE rating 2744 as of January 2010) many years ago.
